UWA Albany Foundation Inc.

The Foundation was formed in 1999, following the establishment of the UWA Albany Centre. The main aims of the Foundation are to promote and support development of UWA in Albany by building links with industry and raising funds to facilitate teaching and research in the region. To date, the Albany Foundation has played a significant role in lobbying for government funds to support UWA Albany activities and expansion; and in providing links to the corporate and community sectors of the wider Albany community. The purpose and aims of the Foundation are to promote the University's educational and research activities in the Albany region through the provision of financial and other forms of support, including:

- awarding scholarships to UWA students from outside the Perth metropolitan area;

- promoting joint research projects between private enterprise, government and the Centre;

- underwriting selected courses from time to time;

- raising funds;

- carrying out, or enabling the carrying out of, works;

- providing financial assistance to the Centre for teaching and research;

- promoting collaboration between Universities;

- serving as an advisory committee for the Centre to facilitate interaction between the Centre and the wider community;

- and such other activities as may assist the Centre to fulfill its objectives.

Friends of UWA Albany

Background & general overview

The Friends of UWA Albany, established in 1999, are a support group consisting of approximately 170 members. The membership is comprised of individual members of the community, including UWA alumni, who wish to support UWA in Albany. The Executive Committee meets each month to report on new memberships and donations, and to plan fund-raising activities. The Friends group presents the Amity Prize to two students each year and assists with the annual UWA Albany Centre Open Day. As part of their fund-raising and UWA promotional activities, Friends also organise the biennial Amity Lecture, philosophy cafˇs and sandwich seminars. Members of Friends often make their contribution to fund-raising by organising events or/and volunteering for activities.

UWA Albany Foundation Fund

Previously known as the UWA Albany Sustainability Fund The UWA Albany Foundation Fund was established by the UWA Albany Foundation to focus specifically on raising funds:

a) to support undergraduate students through perpetual scholarships, grants, bursaries and prizes;

b) to encourage postgraduate students through scholarships and grants to undertake research;

c) for research projects that benefit regional communities;

d) for development projects such as the construction of teaching, research, cultural and sporting facilities as well as endowed professorial chairs

The UWA Albany Foundation Fund sits within the UWA Hackett Foundation, which is is the UniversityÕs overarching fund-raising body that holds funds for many essential projects for the University. The Foundation Fund in Albany seeks primarily to seek capital funds, which can be invested to provide ongoing funding for scholarships and prize or endowments for projects that will have an ongoing benefit to the University and the communities it serves.

The Albany Foundation Fund has already attracted generous donations. The capital fund provides an annual income to support undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships and prizes. This fund helps to ensure the University retains the highest calibre of students and also provide financial aid for those unable to consider tertiary studies because of financial hardship.

The Foundation Fund Committee, a sub committee, comprised of patrons appointed by the Foundation Committee of management, focuses its efforts on raising funds through donations from individuals, small business, large corporations and philanthropic organisations.
