1. Purpose  

  1. This document sets out information about the unincorporated group of people who call themselves “The Friends of UWA Albany” (the Friends).

2. Objects

 1.  These are the objects of the Friends:

(a) to encourage the wider Western Australian community to take an active interest and participate in the University's activities in Albany and the wider region;

(b) to enhance the profile of the University in Albany and the surrounding region by developing an annual program of activities;

(c) to assist with the dissemination of information about the University's activities in Albany and the wider region, such as through publications, lectures and events;

(d) to raise funds to assist with special projects related to University activities in Albany and the wider region.

2.  Any funds raised by the Friends are raised on behalf of The University of Western Australia and are to be applied for the purposes described in (1)(d) or otherwise in accordance with the objects of the Friends.

3. Membership

  1. The Friends may accept any person interested in furthering the objects of the Friends as a member.

4. Committee

  1. A committee of at least five members must be elected each year at a general meeting of the Friends. 

  2. The function of the committee is to manage the activities of the Friends.

  3. A member who has previously served on the committee may again be elected to the committee.

  4. The committee may appoint one or more members of the Friends to the committee if the committee considers it necessary or convenient to do so.

  5. At a meeting of the committee the members must appoint one of them to preside.

  6. At least half the members of the committee must be present for a meeting to be held.

  7. The committee may invite people, whether or not members of the Friends, to attend a meeting of the committee.  People invited to attend a meeting of the committee are not entitled to vote at the meeting.

  8. The member presiding at a meeting of the committee must decide when the next meeting is to take place.

  9. Except as stated in this document, the committee may determine its own procedures and how the Friends are to carry out their activities.

5. Patron

  1. The committee may appoint a person to be a patron of the Friends.

6. Membership fees

  1. The committee must decide each year the fee to be paid for membership of the Friends.

  2. The committee may decide:

(a)      that the same fee applies to every member; or

(b)      that, if the Friends have decided at a general meeting to have different categories of membership, different fees apply to different categories or that no fee applies to one or more categories.

7. General meetings

  1. A general meeting of the Friends must be held each year for the purpose of electing a committee.  Other business as determined by the committee may also be dealt with at the meeting.

  2. The committee may decide that a general meeting of the Friends is to be held at any other time for matters that the committee considers need to be dealt with at the meeting.

  3. At least half the members of the Friends must be present for a general meeting to be held under (1) or (2).
